Research abstract

The work proposed for Phase I has been formulated with the objectives of developing a basis for: (1) training managers to make decisions and commitments about software, hardware and architecture designs of AECs and (2) proceeding to develop an integration strategy in Phase II that will give DoD a robust, future-proof enterprise system for AEC training technology. This decision basis will be in the form of a data base of AEC components and decision tools. The integration strategy will focus on distributed object technology. The data base components will link to related information on application goals, open and closed architecture aspects, standards of compliance and conflicts, information on standards and architecture issues and industry battles, strategies for ensuring compatibility and cost effective implementations (including installation, updating, maintenance, and operation), costs, and other factors important to providing a basis for decision making.
