Research abstract

A necessary precursor to the design of modern time-critical computing applications is that the system requirements and constraints be u identified and organized. Several existing tools and methodologi to capture system requirements and constraints and to provide mechanisms to trace between requirements and their corresponding design elements. Although some of these methods could possibly be applied at later stages in the system life cycle, no existing tool or methodology addresses traceability across the life cycle of system development. This project will establish a mnn for tracing requirements throughout the full life-cycle of comple systems including system requirements capture, design, analysis arnu simulation, implementation, integration and test, and maintenance object-oriented representation of the requirements database, sim~ used in the Resource Capture tool (developed under the ONR Engine Complex Systems (ECS) technology block) will be the primary repository system requirements and constraints. The multi-domain design cab analysis methodology (also developed under the ECS technology block), which partitions the system design capture activities into five Design Views and defines formal relationships between those views, will to support bidirectional links to requirements as defined in the this work.
