Research abstract

The Federal Highway Administration has developed a suite of traffic simulation models to assist state, local, and consulting engineers to plan roads and traffic control improvements. Training for the models has traditionally been instructor-led, costly (particularly from the state and local government perspective), and limited in accessibility (subject to availability of instructors). With CORSIM, a new simulation model, nearing completion, the FHWA is seeking to make training available to more modelers, at their convenience, and at reasonable cost. This project encompasses the assessment and design of a computer-based training (CBT) package to teach CORSIM. The CORSIM CBT would provide self-taught, self-paced training and self-evaluation of progress. The design products of this project include a training plan, design specification, and high-level storyboard samples.
