Research abstract

Walacor proposes an innovative data security platform to ensure the integrity and security of sensor data in contested environments, vital to the Army’s Modernization Plan and Data Strategy VAULTIS goals. As the Army integrates more sensor data from a growing set of sources, new attack surfaces may result, where nefarious actors may attempt to modify the data needed for mission critical decisions. Our platform protects sensor data from ground, air, and space Reconnaissance, Surveillance, and Target Acquisition (RSTA) systems from the point of processing through to end user applications. The Walacor solution creates a cohesive and auditable data provenance with an immutable chain of custody. This mitigates sophisticated adversary attacks, such as spoofing and data manipulation, ensuring 100% data integrity and trustworthiness. Users can understand the data's history and security maintenance, avoiding reliance on hard to decipher algorithms. With decades of technical achievements in the fields of cybersecurity and sensor development, Walacor’s key personnel for this research project captured critical design requirements based on needs analysis and practical experience with relevant fielded sensor and processing systems. Our design requirements reflect direct interaction with subject matter experts in the end user communities and represent our U.S. Patent Pending technology: - Flexible API with no data size limitations. - Unique encryption keys for each data submission, providing granular security. - Integrated, always-on immutable data storage, audit, and logging mechanisms. - Tamper-proof chain of custody powered by Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT). - Advanced encryption (AES-256 or better) for robust data protection. - Easy installation with minimal time, resources, and maintenance. Walacor’s platform supports seamless integration at tactical, operational, and strategic levels. Our prototype will demonstrate secure data management of U.S. Government CUI sensor data, unclassified commercial sensor data, and enriched Publicly Available Information (PAI). Utilizing ontology-driven knowledge graphs, the platform enables non-technical users to query data in natural language, with analytic visualization tools for data professionals. Through rigorous experimentation and validation, at the conclusion of this Direct-to-Phase II SBIR, Walacor will provide a scalable prototype data provenance solution for a sensors-driven environment. We believe our deliverable will advance the state of the art in data integrity, supporting the Army's mission imperatives across C5ISR, PEO IEW&S, and Army Special Operations Command (USASOC). This initiative will also inform Network-Cross Functional Team (N-CFT) activities and related efforts, enhancing the Army's data-centric operations. Walacor’s platform promises significant advancements in data integrity and security, reducing response times and enhancing decision-making for soldiers.
