Research abstract

Blast prediction algorithms contained within vulnerability codes are empirically based on a limited number of scenarios. A new blast algorithm that is physically based will allow accurate prediction of blast effects for almost any scenario. Detonations inside fixed, hardened structures release large amounts of energy, producing a very hostile environment within the room where detonation occurs. The cloud of hot burned gases along with the metallic fragments can travel to adjoining rooms through doors and ventilating openings. Mark A. Fry & Associates, Inc. proposes to adapt a physics-based algorithm in the form of a computer code module that can be used in vulnerability codes.
