Research abstract
During launching of regenerative liquid propellant guns, the projectiles and their components experience potentially damaging high pressure/high frequency oscillations. The purpose of this program is to develop the experimental and computational facilities to simulate these effects. The three major objectives to be accomplished in Phase I are: (1) To develop a method of inducing forced vibrations of the projectile. (2) To develop a computer model of the oscillation-generating medium, the projectile and projectile components. (3) To perform limited experimental and computational validation for projectiles/components in the seven inch gasgun. 3C Systems, Inc. proposes to accomplish the above by producing forced vibrations with a layered medium composed of air gaps and honeycomb layers, perform finite element modeling with COSMOS/M, and support the seven inch gasgun experimentation with parallel work in 3C Systems' Elextromagnetic Schock Test Facility.
