Research abstract

Corvid Technologies, LLC (Corvid) and Zygote Media Group (Zygote) propose the continued development of a high-fidelity 5th percentile female finite element (FE) model of the human body capable of injury prediction for evaluation of aircraft safety systems performance during dynamic loading events.  The approach utilizes female-specific computer aided design (CAD) geometry generated from medical imaging data of female subjects to ensure accurate representation of the female structure. During Phase I, the high-fidelity 5th percentile female model was developed using a combination of CAD generation, explicit meshing, and morphing techniques.  In Phase II, Corvid and Zygote will continue development of the 5th percentile high-fidelity human body by adding muscle activation and model repositioning capabilities.  Validation of the final 5th percentile model will include comparison of simulation response to available human subject and cadaver data for both the active and passive muscle states, respectively, to ensure the model can be used for Air Force modeling and simulations needs.
