Research abstract

The Missile Defense Agency (MDA) is interested in a launching system capable of launching a variety of expendable payloads. In Phase I, Corvid designed a concept modular launch system. The system uses canister modules, housed in a turret. For the initial design effort, the modules consist of standardized diameter launch canisters with a pusher plate driven payload. Each canister utilizes a gas generator with output that can be modified to individual payload launch requirements. Corvid adapted the pusher plate concept to use in the standard canister package. We also designed a loading system to allow for at-sea module reloading while minimizing the required launcher footprint. In Phase II, Corvid proposes to mature its design through rigorous test and evaluation, and additional system-level definition, resulting in a full-scale hardware prototype. Corvid will conduct capstone testing, to include a live drone launch, to validate this solution. Approved for Public Release | 25-MDA-12052 (27 Mar 25)
