Research abstract

"The information model for metadata tags in the SCORM standard has several sections that require additional review and consideration before the ADL vision becomes a reality. Educational, testing, and relationship data elements are examples of sections thatcan be extended to provide better descriptions of the instruction. These depend on techniques for defining learning objects that are not only interoperable among learning management systems, but are describable in repositories by both course developersand learners. Phase I of this effort will define techniques to support design and authoring of learning objects that have pedagogical underpinnings and are based on practical, object-oriented considerations. Specifically, Phase I will produce a set ofmetadata content and elements that provide a pedagogical basis and a return on investment model for sharable content objects. The standardization of meta-tag data elements and content will achieve superior interoperability and reusability of content. Thisstandardization is key to industry-wide acceptance of corporate e-learning and other training initiatives."
