Research abstract

This research explores the feasibility of raising the thermal efficiency of thermoelectric devices to a point where thermoelectric cooling would largely replace conventional refrigeration and cooling systems. The search begins using molecular modeling to identify promising organic semiconductors which might possess the necessary combination of high charge carrier mobility to thermal conductivity. This is followed by the synthesis and characterization of promising structures. The research is aimed at developing techniques for optimizing conducting polymer properties through computer aided design.
