Research abstract

InfoTech proposes to develop schemas and an overall design for the FPAC, CSS, C/CLAM, FOTDT, C/SCAPE, EMA/WS, and Ship Specification systems and the CAD 2 Combat System Equipment Macro Libraries. The schemas will be implementable in an Object Oriented Database Management System (OODBMS), and will be developed using Rumbaugh's Object Modeling Technique (OMT). It is noted that many NAVSEA systems have been analyzed using Nijssen Information Analysis Methodology (NIAM) for the 1991 Model to Analysis Protocols (MAPS) reports. Although NIAM is appropriate for analysis and documentation of many data aspects of the involved systems, the object oriented framework required for the current project also requires hierarchical class, dynamic and functional models which are not adequately handled by NIAM. The main part of the project will consist of the analysis, system design and object design phases characteristic of OMT. Availability and suitability of existing OODBMS systems will be evaluated and a target OODBMS will be suggested based on the requirements developed during this Phase I proposal.
