Research abstract

This proposal involves the development of highly sensitive magnetoresistive sensors for use in electronic fuzing applications. Such fuzing applications include post-launch, projectile warhead initiation of spinning rounds and the safe and arming of non-spinning rounds. The magnetoresistive devices to be developed are highly-sensitive, DC-coupled sensors with very low magnetic offsets and hysteresis, which are the principal requirements for effectively performing the electronic fuzing applications. The work to be performed in this proposal includes building and testing prototype sensors for delivery to the government, as well as an analysis of their suitability for use in the electronic fuzing applications. BENEFITS: Benefits of this development project include enhancing the capabilities of weapons with e and arm systems and anti-lock braking sensors, magnetic sensors. current sensors, electronic compasses, proximity/position sensors.
