Research abstract

PERFECTION OF A NEW TECHNOLOGY IS PROPOSED TO SIMULTANEOUSLY DOUBLE OR QUADRUPLE OPTICAL MEMORY CAPACITY WHILE REDUCING ACCESS TIME BY AN ORDER OF MAGNITUDE. AN EXISTING PROTOTYPE OPTICAL DEVICE WILL BE EXPERIMENTALLY AND THEORETICALLY EVALUATED IN PROGRAM PHASE I, FOLLOWED BY OPTIMIZATION AND REFINED IMPLEMENTATION IN PROGRAM PHASE II. THE PROPOSED DEVICE DEVELOPMENT IS EXPECTED TO REVOLUTIONIZE CD-ROM TECHNOLOGY FOR A WIDE SPECTRUM OF NASA RELATED APPLICATIONS, AND FIND USES WELL BEYOND THOSE CURRENTLY ENVISIONED.
