Research abstract

THIS PHASE I SBIR PROGRAM PROVIDES THE CONCEPTUAL DESIGN, SYSTEM REQUIREMENT STUDY, COST TRADE STUDY, AND OPTICS FEASIBILITY DEMONSTRATION FOR A MULTI-SPECTRAL HIGH RESOLUTION, REAL TIME DISPLAY AND LOW COST REMOTE SENSOR. THE PROPOSED SENSOR USES PRODUCTION COMPONENTS FOR LOW COST. THE OPTICS SYSTEM IS A HIGH QUALITY ALL REFLECTIVE SYSTEM TO PROVIDE BROAD WAVELENGTH COVERAGE AND HIGH RESOLUTION; PREVIOUS SSG DESIGN IS PROPOSED AND OPTICAL PERFORMANCE WILL BE DEMONSTRATED BY THE BREADBOARD. THE SYSTEM IS SIZED FOR A VARIETY OF PLATFORMS, E.G., LIGHT AIRCRAFT OR BALLOONS. THE SYSTEM USES MULTI-ELEMENT ARRAYS OF CRYOGENICALLY COOLED IR DETECTORS FOR HIGH SENSITIVITY AND HIGH SPEED RESPONSE; THESE FPAS AND COOLERS ARE PRODUCTION ITEMS. THE OUTPUT OF THE SENSOR IS CALIBRATED ONA FRAME BY FRAME BASIS BY REFERENCE TO A BLACKBODY OF KNOWN TEMPERATURES.
