Research abstract

This Phase II proposal builds on the literature review and preliminary laboratory work on rapid strength, heat-resistant concrete performed during Phase I. The proposed work lays the foundation for the development of high-performance, rapid-setting and heat-resistant concrete materials to be used in strategically important and remote theaters of operation. CTS Cement Manufacturing Corporation has experience in the development of rapid-setting concrete. It also has experience in the development of heat-resistant concrete. However, rapid-setting concretes are not necessarily heat-resistant, and heat-resistant concretes are not necessarily fast-setting. For the operation of the F-35B aircraft, concrete repair materials must exhibit both characteristics to enhance troop agility and deployment.
