Research abstract

"We propose to investigate the feasibility of using Avanti's self-aligning kinematic optoelectronic mounts for active 3-D RF/optoelectronic microstructures. We believe the unique benefit of our approach is the precision alignment of optoelectronic devicesfor coupling to the outside world (and layer-to-layer). This unique benefit is coupled with additional benefits of easy manufacturability, direct compatibility with existing planar RF devices, and good thermal and electrical interconnect. The benefits ofour approach include rapid manufacturability and low-loss optoelectronic coupling to the external world. The attention to manufacturing concerns and easy integration with proven designs make this approach more relevant to commercial development. Avantiintends to apply the broader manufacturing technology to a large class of optoelectronic devices and the extension to RF active circuits widens the applicability base."
