Research abstract
We successfully developed and obtained FDA approval for its noninstrumented total cholesterol testAccuMeter(R) technology. The product is presently being sold to consumers. We have also developed antest which is currently being optimized for the over the counter market. The development work for bofunding, in part, from SBIR Phase I and II grants. Extending this technology, we now seek to developquantitative test for LDL cholesterol in whole blood. Such a simple, direct test would be of immenseprofessionals and their patients for assessing risk for coronary heart disease (CHD). Total cholestecholesterol tests performed either in the doctor's office or by patients at home would provide an incloser, timely, and more convenient monitoring of these independent risk factors for CHD. These prodscreening tools, would aid early detection of and treatment for hypercholesterolemia through diet, eto reduce risk of CHD. This research will evaluate methodology for the separation of LDL from otherblood specimens, using the AccuMeter test format. Proposed work will also modify sensitivity of themeasurement of LDL cholesterol in the range of 50-200 mg/dL.
