Research abstract

The goal of the Middle Game Localization Utilizing Air DeployableActive Receiver (ADAR) project is the development of the passivecapabilities of the ADAR buoy. The Phase I of the researchinvolved a thorough investigation of the potential for gains dueto enhanced ADAR passive processing through a simulation-basedanalysis, and the development of a prototype ADAR processinghardware and software suite. Our proposal for the second phase ofresearch involves two interrelated parts. First, we willcontinue the development of tactical planning and employmentsoftware tools for a mission of coordinated active and passiveADAR sensing options. This development will be based upon acompletely new toolkit of simulation objects, in order to make awell-designed, flexible software environment for evaluating andplanning coordinated active/passive mission. Second, we willcontinue the development of the ADAR passive processing suite, culminating in an engineering-level prototype hardware andsoftware suite for performing passive processing on ADAR buoydata. Additionally, as a coordinated extension of the two areas,we will employ both the tactical planning software and theprocessing suite in designing an at-sea exercise for thecollection of passive data, and the processing of that data inthe lab following the exercise.
