Research abstract

Large area electronics are under rapid development given the opportunity they offer to high definition displays and thin film microelectronic devices. Much of the present-day thin film device manufacturing technology is derived from IC fabrication technology. Unfortunately, conventional IC fabrication technology is extremely expensive for large-area electronics. A revolutionary cost reduction in sub-micron design rule manufacturing of large area electronics is desired for wide spread commercial applications. Nanomaterials Research Corporation (NRC) seeks to investigate and demonstrate such a breakthrough. Phase I will establish the proof-of-concept. Phase II will optimize and produce prototype devices. Phase III will commercialize the technology. Potential applications include cost-effective, large area electronics manufacturing alternative for a variety of military and commercial needs. The proposed technique can potentially revolutionize the manufacturing of passive components, microelectronicsn UHD magnetic films, display, and electronic packaging applications. The approach can potentially provide the manufacturing foundation for the era of molecular electronics.
