Research abstract

THIS PROJECT WILL RESEARCH AND DEVELOP A FLOOR MONITOR FOR QUICK DETERMINATION OF RADIOACTIVE CONTAMINATION. THE MONITOR WILL UTILIZE A NEW PORTABLE TECHNOLOGY (INCLUDING SUPPORT ELECTRONICS). IT WILL HAVE THE CAPABILITY TO MEASURE BETA CONTAMINATION BELOW 5000 DPM/100 CM SQUARED WHEN AVERAGED OVER ONE SQUARE METER AND COVER AN AREA AS LARGE AS SEVERAL SQUARE FEET PER SECOND. IT WILL ALSO BE CAPABLE OF INDEPENDENTLY MEASURING SMALL AREAS OF CONTAMINATION. ALARMS FOR DETECTED RADIOACTIVITY WILL BE SEEN AS LED DISPLAYS ON THE DETECTOR, WITH ADDITIONAL REAL-TIME THREE-DIMENSIONAL DISPLAY AVAILABLE FOR USER IDENTIFICATION OF THE LOCATION OF CONTAMINATION.
