Research abstract

The innovation we propose is a modified Pre-Ceramic Polymer (PCP) approach to net shape ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) that addresses the key drawbacks associated with current PCP techniques such as high cost, low yield, impurities and the large number of infiltration steps required. We will exploit the unique rheology and high yield (90% by weight) of Triton's PCP, with added nano-fillers (30 volume %) to fabricate a net-shape CMC prototype combustor element with 97% of theoretical density in four infiltration cycles with crystalline matrix with no impurities. The innovation involves use of a state-of-the-art resin transfer molding apparatus, manipulation of the unique rheology of the pre-ceramic polymer and additions of proprietary fillers and additives.
