Research abstract

1 Currently used NDE techniques for radomes require extensive measures of beam deflection, loss and sidelobe levels at many frequencies and in many antenna/radome orientations. These techniques are very time consuming, even when performed with modern computer-controlled test systems. While they determine the electrical performance of the radome, they do not provide detailed diognostic information which can be used to "trim" the radome to improve it's performance. The proposed program applies high-resolution microwave imaging techniques to generate a map of transmission properties in two dementions. By comparing the radome under test to a known radome, not only can the electrical performance be quickly evaluated, but the location and magnitude of defects can be established.
