Research abstract

VPT proposes to develop a flight qualified, parallel-connected, hybrid dc-dc converter system with direct application to the GPS Satellite System. The parallel-connected hybrid dc-dc converters allow a modular approach with the flexibility to support therequirements of the present GPS IIR-M program as well as other higher power space programs including the future GPS III program. In this SBIR Phase II, VPT will demonstrate the flight worthiness of the approach developed in Phase I. The following will beperformed:1. Analyze the small-signal stability of the parallel-connected system with the GPS system power bus to ensure compatibility2. Build two form, fit and function engineering prototype dc-dc converter systems to the requirements of the GPS IIR-M L-Band Transmitter3. Perform complete total dose, single-event, and prompt dose radiation testing and analysis at the component, hybrid module, system levels4. Demonstrate that all of parts and material used in the hybrid dc-dc converter system can be up-screened to rigorous Mil PRF 38534 Class K standards5. Perform a complete electrical and mechanical analysis at the hybrid module and system level6. Build two L-Band box qualification units with flight-quality parts7. Performing flight-level qualification testing on the units
