Research abstract

Today's weapon systems and engagement doctrine are highly complex. Attempting to understand and glean important details from tabular data, end game results, and 2-D graphs is difficult. Providing a 3-D real-time representation consolidates all availablekinematic information into a single presentation. This enables observation of engineering level information in the physical realm by viewing actual 3-D models moving through 6 Degrees of Freedom. Many performance nuances that may be easily overlookedbecome obvious. Using a visualization tool not only improves understanding, but also reduces manpower associated with analyzing the engineering data. Rather then inspecting several output files and creating many charts, a developer can comprehend the wholeset of information simultaneously and identify areas meriting further investigation.FAAC Incorporated, as the prime contractor, proposes to investigate and develop a Real-time Data Monitor and Visualization tool that can access generic data across multiple platforms and is easily reconfigurable. The investigation shall encompassdeveloping a proof-of-concept prototype to demonstrate the accessibility of multiple-platforms and the display of 3-D data in a real-time environment. Additionally, research will be done to investigate the development of such a system that is executableon multiple platforms. The opportunity provided is to develop a real-time generic data monitor that will assist with weapon testing and speed up data analysis and processing, while being easy enough to allow non-technical personnel to be utilized in thetesting process. Currently, there does not exist a quickly and easily reconfigurable real-time (precise time synchronization) data monitor that accesses multiple platforms, allows various sampling rates, displays data in a variety of formats (both textualand graphical), and can interface with multiple COTS analysis tools.
