Research abstract

It is well known that RF fiber optic link performance improves with increasing laser power. Optical power handling capabilities of all the optical components such as modulators capabilities of all the optical components such as modulators and photodetectprs become an important requirement. Conventional normal incident photodetector can have very high bandwidth, but its power handling ability is being traded-off with bandwidth. Waveguide detectors can handle much higher optical power, but the design needs to be optimized. A modified waveguide design needs to be optimized. A modified waveguide structure is proposed here to increase the power handling, as well linearity of waveguide photodetector, targeted for high frequency (100 GHz), low noise RF photonic systems use.
