Research abstract
This proposal describes a Course of Action Display and Evaluation Tool (CADET). CADET is a wargaming modeling and analysis Decision Support System (DSS), focused on critical events. It will provide commanders with fast, flexible interaction to significantly improve the visualization, development, wargaming, and assessment of alternative maneuver courses of action (COAs), and requiring modes computational power for wargaming simulations. CADET will consist of a combination of Knowledge-Based and decision anaytic tools and technologies to provide fast nimble COA wargaming modeling, simulation, and animation under direct control of the commander and staff. CADET will enable flexible user: insertion of critical events into the scenario and re-start the action/reaction/counteraction sequence from any point; selection of appropriate detail and summarization/abstraction (troop unit visualization, geographic locations, etc.); and Synchronization Matrix preparation. In Phase I we propose to focus on the underlying Kowledge Representation technology which will underpin and enable Phase II capabiliites. Phase I will produce a live storyboard of COA development, wargaming, animation, and assessment. Phase II will result in an operations prototype (OP) suitable for use and evaluation in field exercises. A fully functional COA analyzer/wargaming DSS for the commander and staff would be developed in PHase III.
