Research abstract

FUTURE TACTICAL COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS MUST EMPLOY MODULAR MODEM ARCHITECTURES THAT SUPPORT DIGITAL SAMPLING RATES UP TO 50 MHZ, TO PROCESS BURST TRANSMISSIONS. THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO MATCH THE PROCESSING TO THE REAL RECIEVED SIGNALS REGARDLESS OF DISTORTION INTRODUCED AND HAVE THE ABILITY TO SWITCH MODULATION FORMAT ON THE FLYTO COUNTER AN INTELLIGNET JAMMING ENVIRONMENT. THESE REQUIREMENTS AREIN ADDITION TO THE TYPICAL SIGNAL PROCESSING PERFORMED IN MODERN DIGITAL COMMUNCATION SYSTEMS SUCH AS FORWARD ERROR CORRECTION (FEC) ENCODING AND DECODING, INTERLEAVING, ENCRYPTION, BURST DETECTION AND BURST MODULATION/DEMODULATION, ETC. IT IS CLEAR THAT THESE TYPE OF SYSTEMS WILL LEVY STRINGENT SIGNAL PROCESSING REQUIREMENTS ON TACTICALCOMMUNCATION SYSTEMS OF THE FUTURE ESSENTIALLY DICTATING A SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE WHICH IS CAPABLE OF EMPLOYING PARALLEL SIGNAL PROCESSING. THIS PROPOSAL PRESENTS INNOVATIVE APPROACHES FOR RAPIDLY DEVELOPING A MODEM FOR STEALTH COMMUNCIATIONS AND CONSTRUCTION A TEST BED WHICH INCOPORATES THIS MODEM FOR EVALUATIONG ADAPTIVE SIGNAL PROCESSING ALGORITHMS.
