Research abstract
The long-term objective of this research is the discovery of novel cancer chemotherapeutic naturalsought target of action of these agents is the erb32 proto-oncogene and its protein products. The soproducts will be a current culture collection of deep sub- terrestrial oligotrophic micro-organisms.suggests erbB2 may be a selective tumor target. Current work demonstrates that the deep subsurface hnovel microbial ecosystem which has been rarely and poorly examined. The novelness of this microbialpostulate to yield novel agents. This proposal seeks to find erbB2 active agents generated by this gTo accomplish this, this research has several specific aims: 1) microorganisms will be grown underconditions and growth phases for anticancer screening; 2) culture broths and cell biomass will be tesolid tumors (erbE2-), leukemias, and non-transformed cell types to discover selective agents; 3) opfor priority agents will be established for further drug development. The identification of a solidwould have great commercial potential and would represent a major innovation in cancer chemotherapy.
