Research abstract
Robust multiparameter adaptive control system design has become increasingly important in the context of optimization for a broad variety of platforms that incorporate dynamical systems. Over the last two decades, new distributed control design algorithms and procedures have been developed. This Phase I feasibility effort is based on the premise that these theoretical developments have now progressed to a stage where a "robust generic multi-parameter adaptive control system design" can be implemented (e.g., Phase II) as a generic multichip module (MCM) based controller by complementing existing design tools (i.e., INCA, Control Wave, Matlab), together with multiparameter visualization aids on a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) multiprocessor. Such an MCM based controller, with an appropriate user friendly (i.e., downloadable control software) interface, can be utilized by system designers to enhance their design turnaround capability, leading to the next generation of high performance dynamic systems. A proof of concept problem will be selected from several relevant-adaptive control (e.g., 2 input/multiple output) related design problems. Subsequently, ground validation of the advanced MCM controller based system concept will be undertaken in Phase II, with breadboard hardware.
