Research abstract

The proposed SBIR project will demonstrate the feasibility of usingground-based or sea-based radars to detect, track, and discriminatereentry vehicles from decoys, penetration aids, and other clutter.MARK Resources has developed a radar signal processing technology thatis broadly applicable to these tasks. This technology has the potentialto perform more complete, accurate, and rapid measurements than havebeen made previously, leading to superior discrimination performance bythese radars, which will significantly reduce the demands on terminalmissile sensors. The proposed SBIR project will demonstrate that thispotential can be reached. Lockheed Martin has joined us in this project,to effectively transition the technology into existing and plannedmissile defense systems. Although detecting, tracking, and discriminating missile targets is primarily a militaryapplication, the basic signal processing technology is applicable in all situations wheredetails about man-made objects are to be obtained remotely by radar, and fordiscrimination of one type of scatter from another.
