Research abstract
We will be developing an interactive, multimedia administration of the Addiction Severity Index (ASreliable, valid, and the most widely used measure of addiction severity, both in research settings ain clinical settings. It is now mandated in some governmental jurisdictions, and it may become a stachemical dependency. The major drawback of the ASI is its interview format, which requires an hour winterviewer. Self-report formats have been discouraged by the ASI's creators. The expense of standarcreates a financial burden on researches and clinical facilities alike. This suggests the need to exmaintaining reliable, standardized assessments with less personnel costs. The present proposal invesmultimedia technology to administer the ASI to urban substance abusers (aged 25-34). Phase I will (1flow-charts for all ASI domains, (2) mathematically derive algorithms for estimating interviewers' sconduct focus groups for determining an effective computer interface, (4) complete high-level designdomains, and (5) generate a demo diskette of the final program. Phase II will produce the entire proreliability and validity.
