Research abstract

We propose to develop a new algorithm for fast and accurate numerical simulationof radar signatures of realistic tanks and other military targets at high frequecies. The underlying solver approach will combine state-of the art impedance matrix compression techniques(FMM and FFT based)and a modern asymptotic and rigorous highfrequency integral equation approach. The algorithm will be optimized for parallel supercomputers at ARL. Full scale demonstration cases, including a ZSU-23 tank on a realistic ground and others which are of interest to the customer will be carried out.The proposed approach will significanly enhance DoD numerical simulation capabilities used in conjuction with the detection of targets of military interest for frequencies reaching up to about 100 GHz. Potential commercial applications include new, comptetitive technology for analysis of electromagnetic interference effects associated with interaction of antennas mounted on commercial aircraft, wireless communication in cluttered environment, and problems associated with propagation ofelectromagnetic waves in urban developments.
