Research abstract

We have designed an innovative adaptive-optics system to provide correction for laser beam distortion by large atmospheric turbulences such as in an aircraft boundary-layer. The adaptive-optics design is applicable to laser-based infrared countermeasure systems, laser rangefinders, and laser target designators. Our design is a new approach that specifically address large-scale turbulence in the mid-wave infrared waveband. We present a feasibility study plan to evaluate the system's practicality and affordablity.
