Research abstract
Improved missile positioning, attitude sensing and targeting (IMPAST) using the Global Positioning Systems em is required for improving the probability of kill (Pk) of a 5-inch defense suppression missile. currently no antiradiation missiles (ARM cute threats after emitter shut down. The seeker of the only 5-inch ARM in the DoD inventory utilizes analog circuitry with limited signal processing capability. It can perform only rudimentary navigation and homing functions. The advent of GPS and advances in digital signal processing (DSP) technology over the last two decades, together with strong corporate capabilities in DSP ad ARM seeker RF components will enable S.T. Research Corporation to design, develop and demonstrate a 5-inch defense suppression missile that will effectively prosecute threat radars after emitter shutdown. In addition to accuracy improvements for 5-inch defense suppression missiles, a properly integrated GPS receiver would provide an entirely new role for these missiles as they could be used for short range attacks on targets at known coordinates (i.e., fixed sites or mobile unites given prior information). The proposed Phase I SBIR study progbjectives are: i. Define candidate configurations for the seeker will best increase (Pk) for the missile after emitter shutdown. 2. Estimate the accuracy of the candidate configurations. 3. top level design of the seeker with block diagrams, simplified schematics and specifications. This design will utilize NDI components wherever practical.
