Research abstract

In the ongoing Phase I of this SBIR project, QSI (along with subcontractor Lectromec) has been investigating the feasibility of developing and commercializing a comprehensive solution for monitoring, testing and analyzing the performance of aicraft busses, while in operation, to support diagnosis, failure forecasting and maintenance planning. In Phase II, the QSI-Lectromec team proposes to address the modeling, data analysis, architectural, implementation and deployment requirements identified in Phase I todevelop a solution consisting of four functional components: (i) a laboratory test-stand for analyzing bus failures, and for developing and validating failure models to be used in onboard and flight-line maintenance support equipment; (ii) flight-lineautomatic test equipment that incorporates functionality for interfacing with the aircraft bus network, monitoring operational bus performance via passive monitoring of communication traffic and/or excitation of the network using test signals; (iii)ground-based user-friendly software for managing maintenance activity data and supporting failure forecasting analysis; and (iv) onboard monitoring hardware for capturing and logging an enhanced set of bus performance parameters for post-flight download, analysis and initialization of ground-based troubleshooting and maintenance. The Phase II prototype solution will be demonstrated on an aircraft platform identified with the Air Force's assistance. Phase III commercialization of the product is expectedto lead to its integration in a larger aircraft wire integrity maintenance program.
