Research abstract

Ae the inventory of U S ASW platforms continues to decrease the task confronted is increasingly difficult More eapable submerines are employed by putential adversaries located in difficult acoustic environments U S ASW platforme employ suites of sophisticated sensors to handle this growing problem and tracking foreign submarines successfully requires preper planning of eensor utilization and glatform tactics The U S Detecting Navy needs advanced development in the area of sonar suite search plan optimization that accounts for integrated ASW techniques and caM combine platform sensor capabilities ORINCON is uniquely qualified to develop this system as a result of work currently being conducted for DARPA e Advanced Undersea Warfare Decision Support System 4D5S3 and the e¿tensive work conducted in Multihypothesis Tracking 1NHT1 ORINCON ¿ Resource tSTmTAGm¿ sys¿em wxll perform acous¿ic performance 1¿agnoetics and provide optimization guidance MHT will be used te test the performance Of the proposed tactics against simulated targets that may be encountered Tkis in¿evative method of testing a search plaM against potemtial adversaries ueing MHTcombined with an expert system to aid in eptimizing acoustic sensor performancewill provide the search planning capability reguired ¿ ¿
