Research abstract

A CHIRP FOURIER TRANSFORM COMPRESSIVE RECEIVER EMPLOYING NEWAND INNOVATIVE HYPERBOLIC TRANSDUCERS AND A SINGLE REFLECTIVE ARRAY FOR PULSE COMPRESSION IS PROPOSED AS AN EFFICIENT LOW-POWER MEANS OF DEMODULATION FOR FREQUENCY-SHIFT-KEYED (FSK) SATELLITE COMMUNICATIONS. THE SUCCESSFUL DEVELOPMENT OF HYPERBOLIC INLINE REFLECTIVE ARRAY COMPRESSOR FILTERS WILL PROVIDE A BREAKTHROUGH IN PERFORMANCE AND COST OF COMPRESSIVE RECEIVERS. LARGE TIME-BANDWIDTH PRODUCT COMPRESSIVE RECEIVERS WOULD BE SMALL,LOW-POWER, AND COULD BE MANUFACTURED AT 1/10 THE COST OF PRESENT SYSTEMS. A PROTOTYPE SATELLITE COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM SERVING 250 CHANNELS (USERS) SIMULTANEOUSLY USING 4-ARY (1000 TONES) WITH A TONE SEPARATION OF 50 KHZ AND COVERING A TOTAL BANDWIDTH OF 50 MHZ IS PROPOSED. EACH TONE OR CHIP WILL HAVE A MAXIMUM DURATION OF 40 MICROSECONDS. THE ADVANTAGE OF THE PROPOSED APPROACH IS THAT THE ARCHITECTURE ALLOWS LARGE-TIME BANDWIDTH SIGNAL PROCESSING TO DECODE THE REAL TIME COMMUNICATIONS OF MANY SIMULTANEOUS USERS WITH MAXIMUM EFFICIENCY AND MINIMUM SIZE, POWER, AND WEIGHT.
