Research abstract

The USAF finds itself for the first time facing two key challenges: an aging fleet of aircraft and a maturing workforce destined for imminent retirement. Recognizing the implications of these challenges, the USAF has proactively sought to capture theknowledge and know-how of its veteran workforce and transform it into effective training content for delivery to job performers in the shop floor environment and to students and instructors in the laboratories at the Air Logistics Commands (ALCs). ThisPhase II proposal effort is concerned with the development of an e-learning system for training single managers and chief engineers as well as individuals associated with the originating points, screening points, action points, and support points in theDeficiency Reporting (DR) process. The resultant courseware will be delivered to students and instructors at the various ALCs. The Phase II effort will produce a SCORM-compliant e-learning and performance support framework that will enhance thecapabilities of depot shops by providing them with a steady stream of qualified young workers. The e-learning software will run under a SCORM-compliant LMS such as the AFIT LMS. This capability will accelerate the overhaul process of weapon systems andrepair of components thereby improving operational availability of the weapon system and overall fleet readiness.
