Research abstract
The research objective is to develop conceptual designs for intelligent presentations and filtering of Helmet Mounted Display data. Intelligent information display requires that the system have knowledge about status of unfolding aircraft missions as well as the pilot's intent. If the system has knowledge of these two items, then it is possible to display appropriate information for a particular mode of flight. The fundamental challenge is to determine what information to display, when to display it, where to display the information and how to display it. Reticular Systems' business focus has been on developing methods for prioritizing and filtering information, presenting appropriate information in a timely manner and preventing information overload. We have identified a number of potential solutions which are based on our development of situation assessment systems for rotorcraft, intelligent operator assistants and intelligent agents for complex reasoning systems and real-time problem solving. Solutions draw on results for the Air Force Pilot's Associate Program and recent finding in human information processing. Phase I activities include requirements analysis, technology assessment, deign concepts and prototyping and demonstration of key technologies. Reticular systems has developed a highly capable Simulation and Test Environment which will be used to evaluate concepts developed.
