Research abstract

Quality Research Associates, Inc. (QRA) devised a method for using fault tree and sensitivity analysis to identify critical software and/or hardware components warranting additional risk mitigation. The design fault risk identification and mitigation methods are built on the SHADETree(TM) Fault Tree Analysis Methodology developed by Dr. Pullum on this National Science Foundation SBIR. The various means of effecting risk mitigation were also investigated. Fault tree modeling of fault tolerance techniques was researched and several new models were developed. For qualification, we modeled and evaluated the Kuiper Airborne Observatory (KAO) Oscillating Secondary Mirror (OSM) system. [SHADETree is a trademark of Quality Research Associates, Inc.]
