Research abstract

This proposal relates to autonomous guidance of air-to-surface miniaturized munitions and sub-munitions, including (1) a class of I-250 bombs and (2) a class of boosted kinetic energy penetrators. Barron Associates, Inc. proposes to demonstrate the advantages of optimum inverse guidance that minimizes maneuver losses of trajectory specific energy and thereby reduces impact miss distance, increases the available maneuver footprint, and lessens sensitivity to non-ideal release and disturbance conditions. In the Phase I simulations, emphasis will be placed upon derivation and preliminary analyses of the accuracy, maneuver footprint, and robustness of inverse guidance laws for the above weapon classes. There are also attractive commercial applications of inverse guidance principles; in Phase I, Barron Associates, Inc. proposes to formulate a real-time automotive traffic-adaptive signal control system for governing unsaturated traffic flows in a representative municipal grid so as to maximize traffic flow.
