Research abstract

NEW MICROSTRUCTURAL COMPOSITIONS HAVE BEEN DESCRIBED, WHICH PROMISE TO YIELD HIGH PERFORMANCE CERAMIC MEMBRANES WITH MOLECULAR TRANSPORT PROPERTIES THAT CAN BE TAILORED FOR SPECIFIC SEPARATIONS. THIS OVER-ALL APPROACH TAKES ADVANTAGE OF THE HIGHLY STRUCTURED ORDER OF HYBRID, ORGANIC/INORGANIC TEMPLATE MATERIALS TO FORM PREVIOUSLY UNKNOWN MEMBRANES THAT WOULD BE USEFUL IN DESIGNING SYSTEMS FOR MANY KINDS OF SELECTIVE CHEMICAL SEPARATION. IN PHASE I, THE PLAN IS TO MAKE AN ORGANIC TEMPLATE, AND THEN FORM THE HYBRID VERSION. AFTER FIRING TO PRODUCE THE CERAMIC MEMBRANE, IT WILL BE TESTED FOR ITS SELECTIVITY IN VARIOUS SEPARATIONS.
