Research abstract

Not Available Foster-Miller and Cornell University propose to develop very small, MEMS (microelectromechanical systems) sensors based on silicon nitride. These sensors can operate at very high temperatures (600C), considerably past the point where silicon sensors fail. due to the laser-based readout mechanism of the proposed MEMS sensor configuration, simultaneous measurements of pressure, vibration and temperature are feasible. These are important advantages of sensors that will be required to assist inthe desing process of advanced unmanned air vehicles (UAVs).
