Research abstract

"FlesSys Inc. and the University of Michigan propose to develop and validate the performance of an active mechanical flow control device based on advanced complaint strictures technology. During STTR Phase I, PlexSys Inc (dba Mechnanical Compliance Inc.)has successfully developed a Gigh-Frequency Mechanical Vortex Generator by combining a compliant displacement-amplifier with a coice-coil generator. The device was tested in a wind tunnel at various frequencies. Flow Seperation occured at 80 Hx. Havingsuccessfully developed a high-bandwidth mechanical vortex generator, the goal of Phase II program is to develop a more compact piezoactuator driven compliant structrue. Such a device is expected to be significantly more compact, less wieght and higherbandwidth than the one demonstrated in Phase I and can be readily integrated in an aircraft system."
