Research abstract
LSA has demonstrated the ability to minimize many of the degrading effects of night-vision interference sources through the use of spatial light modulators (SLMs). In our prior work or night-vision devices (NVDs), we realized an increase in the effective dynamic range of an intensified imaging system by a factor of 500. For this program, we intend to bring the same technology to bear for night-vision goggles. Hower, night-vision goggles have additional requirements for interference-mitigation devices in addition to those imposed by other NVD systems. Size and weight considerations, which are of utmost importance to aviators, impose demanding constraints on the design of the interference-mitigation components. Furthermore, counter-counter measures to combat laser jammers require a different approach from those used for blooming control. On this program, we will address the requirements that are unique to NVGs through a combination of proprietary device designs and existing technologies.
