Research abstract
Not Available LightPointe Communications, Inc. proposes to combine the advantages of license free wireless laser-and RF-technologies and built an ultra high speed variable data rate microwave digital radio (MDR) inteface as backup system for terrestial laser communication links. The digital radio interface will be capable to operate at speeds up to 155 Mbps which will be the highest data rate ever reported in the license free ISM communication band. The integration of these two wireless communication technologies into a compact hybrid laser/RF system wil be extremely beneficial and is potentially the only method to solve the statistical availability problem of longer distance terrestial laser links
