Research abstract
The objective of this project is to access current defects, define requirements and perform a technology assessment of microelectronic product marking and labeling methods. It is also the objective of this project to develop a preliminary design of a marking and recognition system using a suitable method but not limited to bar code, labeling, or character marking that show merits of meeting these requirements. Simpex technologies, Inc., supported by Treese & Associates, is proposing to accomplish the above objectives through survey questionnaires, lieterature search of new technologies, site visits to manufacturers and users, conducting equipment reviews, discussing requirements with chemical experts, and gathering marking trends and costs. An "As-Is" analysis and a "To-Be" plan will be developed under this project. Design parameters for marking and recognition systems (manual and automated) that will meet our current and future needs will also be addressed. The ultimate goal of this project is to develop affordable methodologies and systems that require minimum set-up and low maintenance costs to support different sectors of microelectronics industries. New marking and labeling materials, that meet governing abrasive and chemical resistive standards as well as an extended pot life, will be explored.
