Research abstract
An adaptive, intelligent control strategy is an essential element in the development of tactical UUV's designed for real-world missions and use by Fleet personnel rather--than scientists. This strategy must encompass all phases of the operational mission from defining the mission orders that will guide the UUV through a sortie, the preparation of the vehicle for the mission and the capability to retrieve the vehicle and interpret the results from the operation. This program will result in an extremely resilient and fully integrated control system that can be adapted to any tactical mission within the capability of the UUV's sensors and performance. Furthermore, it will effectively manage the reliability and resiliancy features of the vehicle itself to survive unforeseen events or equipment problems while completing the mission and returning for recovery. In many ways, this would be a "Universal" controller for tactical UUV's
