Research abstract

Not Available Scientific Systems Company Inc. (SSCI) proposes to develop a systematic procedure for the design of algorithms and a toolbox for System Identification (SI), Health Monitoring (HM), Failure Detection and Identification (FDI), and Adaptive Reconfigurable Control (ARC) algorithms for F/A-18 aircraft. In particular, in Phase I we will carry out the following tasks: (i) Problem formulation and acquisition of linearized F/A-18 models and flight test data for flutter identification; (ii) Apply Deterministic Stochastic Realization Algorithm (DSRA) and Global Maximum Likelihood Estimation (GMLE) algorithms to flight data of F/A-18 aircraft; (iii) Determine the sensitivity of the system to different failures; (iv) Quantify the available control input redundancy in terms of the control authority required to accommodate different failures; (v) Design integrated HM-FDI and ARC algorithms; (vi) Test, tune and evaluate the performance obtained using the SI, HM-FDI, and ARC algorithms for the F/A-18 aircraft models and data; (vii) Develop a conceptual design for the SI, HM-FDI and ARC software toolbox that can be readily integrated into the IDEAS and MATLAB environments. In Phase II we will extend our approach to a larger set of failures and structural damage, to nonlinear F/A-18 models, and complete the development and delivery of the toolbox in IDEAS and MATLAB environments. Our main objective in Phase II will be to demonstrate the viability of our algorithms and software through hardware-in-the-loop piloted simulations. Boeing Phantom Works and SAIC will provide technical and commercialization support in all phases of the project.
