Research abstract
Command and control system in the AAV-C7A1 amphibious vehicle require muliple radio/antenna systems, operating in close proximity, over HF, VHF, and UHF frequencies. This collocation of antenna systems results in major Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) Problems causing transmitter spurious outputs, increased bit error, receiver desensitization, inter-modulation and cross-modulation distortion, transmittter back inter-modulation products, harmonic frequency interference within and out-of-bands, and decreased range capability. Further, the multiple antennas in close proximity cause scalloping and distorted antenna patterns. Astron has proposed applying a complete system approach to the co-site interference problem. After evaluating all available equipment and subsystems, both technically and cost, proposes a series of low cost simplified equipment and antennas to solve the problem.
